Ellen Oldenburg and Ovidiu Popa have won 2nd place in the HHU Ideas Competition 2024 in the Research category with DeepLOKI! The AI-based software framework DeepLOKI (LOKI stands for Lightframe On-Sight Keyspecies Investigation) significantly improves the analysis of zooplankton images. DeepLOKI is faster and more accurate than previous alternatives in terms of taxonomy. It also runs on standard MacBooks and can therefore also be used in remote locations without internet access, e.g. on expeditions.
